DigiBeta decks cost 40 grand.
BetaCam SP decks cost around 7.5 - 9grand in the U.S. (UV-1800)
I can't touch a Digi-Beta they are so expensive.
"Soap Opera look", that is an interesting comparison. I think film looks like film on BetaCam SP.

hmmm, maybe you like the way DV cameras "shape" the video signal by crunching black levels and expanding the brights?
Lower budget BetaCam SP cameras and recorders can sometimes look "noisy" if you have a solid wall in the background.
I do like the clarity of BetaCam SP, I used to think that one-inch video had that soap opera warm toned look, but that BetaCam SP had a more balanced colorful look.
If I were thinking of converting a video to film, I think I'd rather shoot it on BetaCam SP versus
DV-Cam, (although I'd probably shoot it in Super-8 anyway).

Hmm. I don't think I'd ever plan to transfer tape to film, just the other way round. Aside from image quality, look at those prices!
Another reason behind my preferance could be that the beta cameras in our school are, I'd wager, very old and are due for an upgrade, while the xm2 is won of the newest and surely one of the best dv cameras around.
I've never had a chance at using super-8 which is a pity.
